Education as we know it is in the midst of transformation. Across the globe, we’re seeing a significant change to traditional education systems and structures. In 2020, the coronavirus pandemic took the world by surprise, bringing normal life to a grinding halt, and disrupting the ways in which we learn and work. This has required education providers of all shapes and sizes to rethink the way they teach, assess, and engage their learners. The education sector must continue to prepare all learners to thrive in work and life, and in complex and changing environments.

The Australian workforce is underpinned by the education system, which is part of one of the nation’s largest workforces, with the education and training sectors employing almost 250,000 people in a range of roles. In 2019, this accounted for 8.1% of the total workforce in Australia.

The Australian international education market is also the nation’s 3rd largest export at 8.0% of the total export market, contributing an estimated $36.4 billion to the economy in 2019/2020.

Vocational education and training (VET)

As industries and workforces adapt and evolve, the VET sector is a central cog in the system. VET providers must produce appropriately skilled and agile professionals to meet the current and emerging needs of the industry.

Schools (K-12)
